Pattern: Survival Stole

(I have vague, shawl-like aspirations for a lot of things. This is an ongoing trend that I have no doubt will crop up repeatedly here.)
In any event, it sat here spliced into a beach ball of continuous color runs for months while I tried to figure out what to do with it. Finally, faced with a few consecutive days of meeting and no help for my sanity in sight, I said screw it, pulled out ye olde stitch library and cobbled together a quickie pattern that not only would turn my beach ball into something pretty AND useful, but also would enable me to survive the next few days with my marbles intact.
I think it turned out fairly well. I apologize for the lack of action shots, I'll see if I can
Survival Stole
A quick and brainless knit to help save one's sanity when trapped in meeting and other events that require a physical but not necessarily mental presence.
Size: 1 foot by 6 feet. Adjustable based on yarn available and personal preferences.

Supplies:
5 skeins of Noro Silk Garden (or similar weight yarn)
US size 9 circular needle (24" min.)
CO 58 stitches
Starting with row 1 and continuing to the end, slip the 1st stitch of each row purlwise (this is the sl 1 in rows 7-9).
Rows 1-6: Knit
Row 7: sl 1, k4, p48, k5
Row 8: sl 1, k5 k2tog, k3,(yo)x2, k3, [k3tog, k3, (yo)x2, k3]x4, k2tog, k6
Row 9: sl 1, k4, p6, k1, [p8, k1]x4, p5, k5
Repeat rows 8 and 9 for about 6 feet (roughly 170 repeats) or until you simply cannot take it any more.
Last 6 Rows: Knit
Bind off with relatively stretchy method of choice.
Block and wear!
If you try this pattern, please let me know if there are and corrections or clarifications that need to be included. :) Thanks!

Date: 2010-06-01 08:01 pm (UTC)B. I've been doing good with having it available on a webpage, but it might be a good idea to do a PDF as well. I've been debating making mine available as PDFs, so I don't know. It might be a good idea.
C. Dude, you had five balls of silk garden? I'm kinda jealous.

Date: 2010-06-07 02:01 am (UTC)B.) The feedback I've been getting so far is that PDFs are generally preferred, and folks like that they can store them in their Rav libraries. Which considering that my cache of Rav patterns is like the point of no return, it's good to get an alternative perspective.
C.) Actually, I had six. I'm gonna make mittens out of the last ball + excess. ;) After Christmas sale, man. 20% off + GC and it was all downhill from there. I have a bad Noro habit.
