Internet Window Shopping With Sarah
May. 8th, 2010 12:44 pmBecause I've already set of the fire alarm twice today and because it's supposed to rain and no matter how much I like OK Go I'm not willing to get soaked for them, (Albany Tulipfest,) I'm going to introduce a new feature today called "Internet Window Shopping with Sarah" wherein I go lust over all sorts of fibery things on Etsy. Mostly.
1.) Hornsshaw Oak Swift

I have a very nice umbrella swift that I use at home. The key words here, however, are 'at home.' Sometimes you go on vacation. And there are yarn shops. And you lose your head a little. And you don't want to ask the ladies at the shops to wind everything so you can use it OMG right then because, well, there are MORE yarn shops, and what if you find something else you want to use even more? So aside from being straight-up gorgeous, this swift is super portable, and the shop also sells carrying bags to make it a breeze. I've been coveting these for a while, and frankly the only thing that could make it better, IMHO, would be for it to be made out of birdseye maple. If I got my hands on something like that, I'd be found weeks later, emaciated and crazy, calling it my Precious.
2.) Loop Blingpaca

I WAS going to feature a more colorful Loop batt (something Loop excels at,) but this unholy pairing of angelina and alpaca has me captivated. I love alpaca. I love sparkles. It's like my own personal fibery Reeses. Help!
3.) Jill Draper Everglades Handspun

As an aside, Jill Draper was at a show a couple weeks ago with this dreamy merino braid in pale blue and yellow that I regret not buying SO MUCH RIGHT NOW. Bad decision, Sarah, no cookie. Anyway, I think yarn like this is one of the big reasons I got into learning how to spin. I love the wild blend of colors. This would be a simple hat, I think, a simple neckwarmer. You want to show off the gorgeousness of the yarn, and with it being merino, it's insanely soft.
4.) Fiberstory BFL in Afternoon

This would make such a pretty sweater. There are 12oz available right now, and I could turn that into something SO gorgeous and quiet and...I wounder if I could get enough yarn out of that to make a Sabbatical?
5.) Juno Fibre Arts Milly Sock in Tropics

I need to get on the ball and knit up some socks. I seem to collect sock yarn like they're Pez dispensers.
6.) Spun Right Round Falkland in Calypso

Somewhere out there is a little girl who desperately needs something made from this. Her name may be Jessica, and she might be in the Carolinas somewhere.
7.) Local Gringos Handknit Tags

The whole line of these are pretty nifty (there's a couple different styles in the shop, but the little scout-like kerchief ties are killing me on this one. I have something similar that I affix to all of my handknit gifts with washing instructions, 'cause there's nothing like someone accidentally felting a wool lace shawl in the dry to drive you up the wall.
8.) Sheepish Creations Stressball Sheep

Adorable! Useful! It's aerodynamic qualities must bet further researched.
9.) Pocket Meadow Farm Leicester Longwool locks

I haven't tried spinning from the lock yet, but theser gorgeous curls really make me want to try. I could make a super funky art yarn and try to preserve the coils, or I could comb them out and make something sleeker. So many options! (I also really, really like the colors. Perty.)
10.) Bristlecone Canarywood Pear Supported Spindle

Holy schnikies, kids. Is that not a thing of beauty? Homina. I wonder what it spins like.
